Headshot of the author Elizabeth K. King

Hello!

When I was eight years old, I wrote a story about a squirrel. I wrote it on notebook paper in pencil, included illustrations (even though I'm terrible at drawing), and stapled it together to create a book. When I took it to school the next day, my very kind teacher read it to the whole class. I guess that was my very first book.

I wrote and created more picture books in the following years, and when I was 13, I wrote my first full-length fantasy novel. I have been writing ever since. Although I've entertained many different career ideas over the years, I don't think it was ever in question that I would be A Writer. Because it's not just my career - it's part of who I am. The stories in my head are endless, and I don't think I will ever stop telling them.

ABOUT ELIZABETH K. KING

Elizabeth K. King attended Emerson College, where she earned a B.A. in Writing, Literature, & Publishing. She interned with the Jim Henson Company, where she dabbled with the idea of moving to New York and pursuing a career in publishing. Instead, she moved home to Houston and began a 10-year career as a Bookseller, where she learned a good deal about book distribution, promotion, and marketing.

Elizabeth briefly worked as a middle school teacher but quickly found it too difficult to juggle writing and teaching. She left teaching to pursue writing full-time and to finally fulfill her lifelong dream of publishing her (rather long) backlist of novels. Rotting Beauty is her first published novel.

In her spare time, Elizabeth loves to read as many books as possible, rollerblade around her neighborhood, burn scented candles, and cook and eat pasta. She also loves to do everything with her cocker spaniel, Blue, including going for walks, getting coffee and pup cups, visiting family, and taking long naps.
